Frequently Asked Questions

Excellent Care & Service - We’re confident you’ll be delighted by your visit to the CDLC.   In a recent survey, 100% of patients responding reported both the overall care they received and satisfaction with their visit as “Excellent”.

Personalized & Safe - Our board certified dermatologists are personally involved in your care, from understanding your goals, to treatment, to follow up, and making sure you received the best patient care in a safe environment every step of the way.

Skilled Physicians - All of our cosmetic procedures are performed by CDLC physicians with specialized training in cosmetic skin and laser treatments.  This in contrast to many cosmetic treatment centers, where technicians and non-medical staff are responsible for creating treatment plans and even performing the procedures.

Your initial visit to the U-M CDLC will involve a consultation and evaluation. During the consultation, you and your CDLC physician will discuss together your goals and how best to achieve them. Your consultation will last as long as needed to fully address your questions and concerns and lay out various treatment options. This may be as little as five minutes or perhaps 30 minutes or more. At the conclusion of your first consultation with us, you will have a personalized treatment plan and a clear understanding or our recommended procedure(s) and how much each will cost.

There are two highly-skilled board-certified dermatologists in the CDLC.  They are supported by an experienced and caring team of nurses, medical assistants, and patient services representatives dedicated to ensuring you have a safe and satisfying experience.

The CDLC was established at the University of Michigan in 1997.

$95.00 This fee includes your confidential evaluation with a CDLC physician and the development of your personalized treatment plan.

Treatment costs vary significantly between individuals based on the area to be treated (such as the face, arms, or chest), the size of the treatment area, and the complexity of the treatment technique(s) best suited to meet your needs. During your initial consultation, you will discuss your specific goals and develop a personalized and affordable treatment plan with one of our board certified dermatologists.  A single treatment plan will range from $200 to $4,000 or more depending on the treatment you and your physician choose to pursue, but most of our procedures cost less than $1,000.

Most insurance companies do not provide coverage for cosmetic treatments. However, certain laser treatments usually qualify as medically necessary (such as laser therapy for hemangiomas or port wine stain birthmarks) and our Patient Services Associates will assist you in obtaining authorization for coverage from your insurance carrier as needed.

"Laser" stands for "Light Amplification by the Stimulated Emission of Radiation." Lasers work by producing an intense beam of bright light that may be used to treat wrinkles, scars, blood vessel lesions, pigmented lesions, tattoos and unwanted hair.

The laser has the unique ability to produce one specific color (wavelength) of light, which can be varied in its intensity. There are many lasers, each producing a specific wavelength of light for a specific purpose. The newest laser systems have become remarkably precise and selective, allowing for better treatment results and safety levels not previously available.
